Meliá Chiang Mai Celebrates ‘The Sweet Life’ With Spanish-Inspired Afternoon Tea

From chorizo-filled brioche buns to Spain’s famed caramelised custard dessert, Meliá Chiang Mai’s new La Vida Dulce Afternoon Tea is a tribute to the sweeter side of life, accompanied by sweeping views of the city and famed Doi Suthep Temple on the mountaintop to the west.

Meaning “the sweet life” in Spanish, La Vida Dulce Afternoon Tea for two references Meliá’s Spanish origins and is served daily at the hotel’s signature Mai Restaurant & Bar on the 21st floor until January 31, 2027.

Savoury delights include Spanish ham croquettes, chorizo and cheese brioche buns known as Bollos Preñaos, crabmeat and avocado timbales, and Manchego cheese scones with strawberry jam and cream.

Sweet treats range from white chocolate cake and Crema Catalana, Spain’s traditional custard dessert, to refreshing lemon ice popsicles.

The afternoon tea is accompanied by Meliá Chiang Mai’s popular mocktail Meliá Blossom, a sublime concoction of lychee juice, lime juice, cherry blossom syrup and grenadine, finished with a coral vine flower garnish.

Inclusive of a selection of fine teas or coffee, afternoon tea is presented in a vintage tea cabinet crafted at Baan Tawai, providing a glimpse into the region’s rich heritage of woodcraft. Situated in Chiang Mai’s Hang Dong District, Baan Tawai is a community renowned for its wood sculptures, bustling markets and skilled wood carvers whose craftsmanship has been handed down through the generations.

An intimate fine-dining restaurant serving contemporary Northern Thai dishes accompanied by spectacular vistas, Mai Restaurant and Bar is a visual marvel. Guests enter the venue under an arch that pays homage to a nearby temple. In a salute to Chiang Mai’s Bo Sang Umbrella Village, large installations of illuminated umbrella ribs cling to the ceiling. Various artworks depicting umbrella canopies, including those crafted from antique Chiang Mai textiles, adorn the walls.

Priced at THB 999 (USD 30) net for a set inclusive of two glasses of Meliá Blossom and a choice of tea or coffee, La Vida Dulce Afternoon Tea is served from 2pm to 5pm daily. A second option, priced at THB 1,599 (USD 48) net per set, includes two glasses of sparkling wine and a choice of tea or coffee.
