BMW Unveils All-New i3 on Neue Klasse Platform, Signalling a New Era of Electric Driving

BMW has introduced the all-new BMW i3, the second model built on its next-generation Neue Klasse (New Class) platform, marking a significant step forward in the brand’s electric vehicle strategy.

Following the debut of the iX3, the new i3 reflects BMW’s vision of blending familiar design language with advanced electric performance, bringing it closer in appearance to the conventional 3 Series while embracing the future of mobility.

A Familiar Form with a Futuristic Twist

Unlike its predecessors, the new i3 adopts a more traditional sedan silhouette, aligning closely with the design of the iconic 3 Series. This shift is expected to appeal to a broader audience seeking a balance between innovation and familiarity.

However, BMW has incorporated modern design elements, including a reimagined front fascia where the signature kidney grille merges seamlessly with the headlamp structure. This integration is not purely aesthetic, as it allows for embedded light guides that enhance both functionality and visual identity.

At the rear, the taillights extend inward toward the centre of the boot, forming a distinctive L-shaped lighting signature, while flush pop-out door handles maintain the sleek, aerodynamic profile typical of modern electric vehicles.

Strong Electric Performance with Extended Range

While full specifications have yet to be disclosed, BMW has confirmed key performance figures for the new i3.

The vehicle features a dual electric motor setup, delivering:

✅345 kW (469hp)

✅Up to 645 Nm of torque

BMW also claims an impressive WLTP range of up to 900km, positioning the i3 among the more competitive long-range electric vehicles in its segment.

Charging capabilities are equally notable, with DC fast charging up to 400kW, enabling the vehicle to gain approximately 400km of range in just 10 minutes.

A New Digital Interior Experience

Inside, the i3 introduces BMW’s latest Panoramic iDrive system, designed to enhance driver interaction and visibility.

A standout feature is the Panoramic Vision display, which spans from one A-pillar to the other, effectively combining the instrument cluster and head-up display into a single, continuous projection.

This is complemented by a centrally mounted infotainment touchscreen, angled toward the driver for improved usability and accessibility.

Production Timeline and Availability

BMW has confirmed that production of the new i3 will begin in August 2026 at its Munich plant, with initial deliveries expected from autumn 2026, starting in Europe.

Pricing details have not yet been announced.

A Strategic Step Forward for BMW EVs

The introduction of the new i3 highlights BMW’s commitment to its Neue Klasse platform, which is set to underpin the brand’s future generation of electric vehicles.

By combining extended range, rapid charging, familiar design and advanced digital interfaces, the i3 represents a pivotal step in BMW’s transition toward a fully electrified lineup.

As competition intensifies in the EV segment, the i3 positions itself as a compelling option for drivers seeking both performance and practicality in a next-generation electric sedan.
