The In-Depth Review : The Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 Plus

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 Plus brings a host of standout features designed to deliver an impressive user experience, building on the strengths of its predecessor while adding some welcome upgrades.

Biometric Access and Audio

A notable feature is the in-display fingerprint sensor, which stands out among tablets. Unlike power button-based solutions, the in-display sensor is easily accessible and intuitive to use in a hurry. While Apple’s Face ID remains the gold standard for tablet biometrics, Samsung’s offering provides a reliable and quick alternative.

The Galaxy Tab S10 Plus also includes four speakers arranged along the left and right edges, delivering a clear stereo output ideal for media consumption. This sound setup is ideal for watching movies, playing games, and streaming content without the need for headphones.

S Pen and Storage Options

The S10 Plus includes a dedicated slot on its back for the S Pen, Samsung’s high-quality stylus, which is bundled with the device. The S Pen allows for seamless note-taking, sketching, and document editing, adding immense practical value to the tablet, especially for productivity and creative work. This makes the S Pen far more practical here than on smartphones.

The tablet also supports a microSD card slot for expandable storage, complementing the 256GB or 512GB internal storage options and providing flexibility for users who need additional space.

Display and Aspect Ratio

With a 12.4-inch OLED display boasting a 120Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 1752 x 2800, the Galaxy Tab S10 Plus offers an exceptional viewing experience. The screen supports HDR10+ for rich color depth and detail, making it perfect for media consumption. Samsung’s Vivid mode, which is the default, emphasizes vibrant colors, while the Natural mode offers more realistic tones for those who prefer them. The 16:10 aspect ratio is ideal for video playback, setting it apart from the iPad’s narrower screen ratio.

Performance and Software

Under the hood, Samsung has switched from Qualcomm to MediaTek’s Dimensity 9300+ processor for its flagship tablets this year. Backed by 12GB of RAM, the Tab S10 Plus performs efficiently, with an approximate 20% boost in multi-core processing over the Galaxy Tab S9 Plus. The tablet can handle demanding tasks, including gaming on high settings, with smooth frame rates around 60fps. Samsung’s One UI 6.1, based on Android 14, enhances multitasking with easy split-screen options, while Samsung’s DeX software turns the tablet into a desktop interface when paired with a keyboard case, allowing for a more versatile setup.

One UI 6.1 includes a suite of productivity-focused features, like Samsung Notes for note-taking and Samsung’s AI tools for image editing and summarization. These tools offer practical functionality, though some—like Samsung Internet’s AI summarization feature—may have niche appeal. The Tab S10 Plus’s seven-year commitment to OS updates and security patches is a significant bonus, ensuring longevity and support on par with Apple.

Camera and Video Calling

The Galaxy Tab S10 Plus retains the dual-camera setup of its predecessor, with a 12MP main and an 8MP ultra-wide lens. While the camera quality is decent for a tablet, it shines more with the 8MP front camera designed for video calls, as its ultra-wide perspective makes it easier to stay in frame. If video calling is a priority, the Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra with its dual 12MP front cameras may be worth considering.

Battery and Charging

The S10 Plus houses a 10,090mAh battery, similar to the previous model but appears to benefit from improved energy efficiency, potentially due to the Dimensity 9300+ chip. Samsung’s 45W fast-charging support allows for relatively quick recharging, although the device doesn’t come with a charger, so you’ll need to have a compatible one on hand.

In summary, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 Plus provides a robust, versatile experience, combining a beautiful display, high-quality audio, and productivity tools like the S Pen and Samsung Notes to appeal to both casual users and professionals. While the lack of a headphone jack and bundled charger might detract slightly, the tablet’s performance, display quality, and multi-year software support make it a strong competitor in the high-end tablet market.
